Scripture: “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.” – Acts 20:28

Devotional:
Acts 20:28 reminds us of the sacred responsibility entrusted to us as believers. Paul’s words to the Ephesian elders emphasize the dual charge of self-awareness and the care of others. As stewards of God’s church, we are called to nurture, protect, and guide with humility and diligence.

The imagery of a shepherd overseeing a flock conveys a sense of vigilance, compassion, and sacrifice. The ultimate example of this is Jesus Christ, who purchased the church with His blood, a profound reminder of the value God places on His people.

In our own lives, we may not hold the formal title of “overseer,” but we are each given opportunities to shepherd in our spheres of influence. Whether it’s within our families, workplaces, or communities, we are called to lead with love, prioritize the well-being of others, and point them to Christ.

Being a shepherd also requires vigilance in guarding against distractions or threats that can harm the flock. By staying rooted in prayer and Scripture, we equip ourselves to discern wisely and act courageously in our care for others.

Reflection:
Who has God placed in your life to shepherd or guide? How can you better reflect Christ’s example in your leadership? Are there areas where you need to deepen your vigilance in protecting what God has entrusted to you?

Prayer:
“Lord, thank You for entrusting me with the care of others. Help me to lead with compassion, wisdom, and humility. May I always reflect Your love and sacrifice as I shepherd those in my care. Guard my heart and guide my steps, so I may honor You in all I do. Amen.”

Action:
Take a moment today to encourage someone in your life who looks to you for guidance. Pray for wisdom in your leadership and reflect on one tangible way you can better shepherd those God has entrusted to you.
